Happy (belated) Halloween!!
Starting in about August, Logan told me he wanted to be a cow for Halloween. He told EVERYBODY he was going to be a cow! He was so excited. At least he was excited till about two weeks ago when he told me he wanted to be a horse. Then he wanted to be a monster. Fortunately we convinced him to be a "monster cow" who says "Mooooo...Boo!" He bought it and we had a very Happy Halloween!
Thankfully my snuggle bunny was very happy about her costume! (I was especially glad that it kept her warm because we had a horrible, cold, windy, rainy night for Trick-or-Treating). She was bundled up and under the umbrella in the Baby Bjorn....we hit a handful of houses then called it a night pretty early! Fingers are crossed we'll have better weather next year!

6 Months! Half a year, people!!
Who knew that 6 full months could pass by this quickly!?! Caitlin just
celebrated her half-birthday last Saturday, and we have a few new tricks
to show for it! She is now sitting entirely on her own. Not quite
well enough to leave her sitting without some pillows behind her, but
she can sit all by herself for a long time. She's also rolling over
from her back to stomach now! She likes to practice this trick a lot
when she wakes up in her crib. She still sleeps on her back or
sometimes her side, but seems to roll over every time to test out some
tummy time on her own. She cried and cried the first few times when she
thought she was stuck on her tummy and the world was ending. She now
seems to understand it's not so bad after all.
We've had a HOT few weeks here in Missouri. Highs have been in the upper 90's, and every day I have felt grateful that the whole summer wasn't like that. We did a lot of pool and sprinkler time in the back yard, and plan to do more of the same tomorrow. Temps should go back down a bit on Monday, thank goodness!
Now back to the (1/2) birthday girl....

Sleeping: We've got a serious sleeping champ on our hands! She takes after her brother, and is on a great 7pm-7am routine. Logan is still getting into bed around 7pm, but his wake-up has been trending closer to 6 or 6:30.....which is not quite as nice as that glorious 7am time!
Eating: Caitlin is a cereal and oatmeal-eating machine! We'll start doing veggies/fruit on Tuesday and I'm so excited to see how she likes them! Somehow it seems to me that she's less interested in nursing these days, and even more easily distracted than usual - but I suppose that's a natural part of starting to eat more solids.
Etc: Logan and Caitlin are starting to form a little more of a relationship lately! If she cries in the car, Logan will say, "It's ok, Caitlin. Logan got you." My heart explodes every time.

Catching up....
Well we are still here!! Life with two is a lot more hectic, but at 10 weeks in, we are finally getting the swing of things. I feel like if life were a treadmill, the incline and speed have picked up - but it's still the same motion... (of course that's just in time for me to return to work....but given that I work from home, the transition will not be that dramatic - thank God!)
Caitlin is a sweet little thing. She has started smiling and cooing to us, and it just melts my heart. Logan is a great big brother -- and for the most part he loves her to pieces and likes to help as much as he can. Of course, he is also 2 years old now - so it's not all rainbows and butterflies all day long :) The boy likes to make lots of decisions (what to wear, what to eat, what to do) - and while we try to let him be involved in making them - it's not always possible. So we are dealing with some tantrums, but he also has moments where he is just so sweet. I guess that's what it's all about now -- testing boundaries, but still being a loving little boy!
In some ways, it's hard to believe that only ten weeks have passed, and in other ways it feels like she was born just yesterday. In the last ten weeks we have celebrated two birthdays (Logan's and mine...and we've sung "happy birthday" millions of times!), celebrated Easter, enjoyed a fun Easter egg hunt with neighbors, traveled to GA to meet SB's side of the family, and hosted grandparents and aunts and cousins galore!!

Introducing....
CAITLIN ELEANOR BROOKS
Born February 25, 2013
7 Pounds, 3 Ounces
20.5" Long
Miss Caitlin arrived one week early - and her arrival was exceptionally speedy at that! From check-in at the hospital (7:55pm) to actual delivery (8:05pm), we logged a total of 10 minutes! Little did we know at the time, we nearly had to deliver on the side of the road in our Sequoia! My water broke at the hospital just after they put me in a triage room, and wham - it was baby time. Two amazing nurses delivered Caitlin -- it was such a fast delivery that our doctor had no chance of getting there in time. Fortunately, she was totally healthy and despite leaving us in complete shock over everything - the arrival was as smooth as can be.
Logan visited baby Cate on day two. He has been so sweet and loving to her, and we are so grateful for that. He certainly has had some "moments" in the last 10 days - but that's to be expected, I think. I feel like he seems soooo much bigger now that I've been carrying around a 7lb little baby.
We are absolutely in love with our new little munchkin, and I am soaking up every last moment of Scott's paternity leave this week. Caitlin is eating really well, and is sleeping decently. Mama could use a few more hours of sleep - but that will come.

Decisions, decisions.....Kate Spade Surprise Sale!
Kate Spade is hosting a doozie of a sale!!! I've been in need of a new wallet, and have been eyeing a bunch from Kate Spade (naturally). With a birthday coming up, they seemed like a great item for a wish list.....but no need now! They are literally half off right now. I narrowed my favorites down to these 3....
They also have a bunch of other cute items. If I were a crazy bag-buyer (which I'm not, for the most part -- I keep things functional....stylish, but functional), I'd get this baby bag too....but my husband will be happy to know I'm restraining myself!

Super Snowy Sunday!
We had an unexpected 3-4" of snow on the ground this morning when we
woke up! What a surprise! We haven't seen much in the way of the white
stuff in the last year, so it was extra fun to be able to play in it
for a bit with Logan. He wasn't too sure of it at first - he kept
saying "Chilly!" and "Hurt!" when it was extra cold and windy.
We ran some errands at Target today, and baked cupcakes for a Super Bowl party with our neighbors this evening. It was a nice, relaxing day overall. Here are a few shots from our fun in the snow:

Soccer in the house? Ok...
I suppose at some point we won't encourage Logan to "kick, kick, kick"
and "throw, throw, throw," but right now it is just so cute, and isn't
causing too, too much damage. Yet.
I know these are virtually the same pictures....but his smile is
slightly different, so I thought I'd post both of them. How is it that
he looks like he's practically 5??!! Ok, maybe a slight exaggeration,
but he looks so old in his little blue jeans and sneakers. Babyhood is
long gone!
Life here is good, but has been busy as we prepare for baby girl's arrival! We are almost set on her name, just need to test it out a bit more. Logan's been sleeping pretty well in his big boy bed -- thank goodness! I just hope that won't go out the window when she arrives. I saw the doctor this morning, and she's dropped a bit, but is still in there pretty tight, so he doesn't anticipate that we'll have any surprises in the next couple of weeks. 33 days and counting till the due date....yikes and yay at the same time!

Merry Christmas!!
Wishing our friends and family a very Merry Christmas, and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!! 2012 has been a great one for our family, and 2013 will be a memorable one for us as well as we welcome this little baby girl into the world (30 weeks along today!). We feel very blessed.
Tonight we will go to a family church service, and take a stab at making pizza from scratch (a potential new Christmas Eve tradition? We shall see how it turns out....) Santa will visit tonight, and tomorrow will be lots of fun! They're forecasting 5-7" to fall tomorrow too - so the potential exists that it could still be a white Christmas! Our fridge is stocked....just need to try to get a sled today for Logan!

20 months old!

Milestones:
Sleeping: I seriously owe you big time for your amazing sleeping skills. You are still on a schedule of going to bed at 7pm, and waking up just about 7am. You've made it to 8:15/8:30 once or twice -- which nearly scared me to death! You still sleep in a sleep sack contraption, though you have figured out how to unzip it this month, so sometimes we find you out of it. I'd been hoping the sack would mean you won't climb out of your crib. We will see now! Plus, we've finally decided to get a big boy bed for you in the next month or so (with side rails) to make room for your little sister. I'd been debating buying a bed versus buying another crib - and it just makes sense to take the leap to the bed. I hope your great sleeping habits continue, because I sure thank my lucky stars that you are easy to put to bed, and you sleep a long time!
Eating: Holy guacamole, you are an eater. I mean, seriously - there are meals when you consume full adult portions. I don't know what I will do with you when you are a teenager! You love, love, love all fruit (especially Clementines these days. My dad peeled multiple Clementines for you every day when we were in Wisconsin, and Logan really missed his personal peeler when he returned -- asking for "Papa? Papa?" at just about every meal!). You really love pasta, and most Mexican type meals. Veggies are only ok, but you will consume some for the most part. On Sunday you ate a full Costco sized pizza serving (both slices). I am still in awe. You were in a food coma afterwards as you slept almost 3.5 hours!
Clothing Size: Mostly 2T
Diapers: Size 5
Teeth: 12! I think you have some more coming in soon too.
Language: You are talking up a storm, and I just love it. You can express what you'd like to eat at meals. You have some 2 or 3 word phrases too (my fave is "I did it!"), and it seems like you say something new every single day. The language acquisition side of things just astounds me - it is so neat to see the wheels turning in your little head as you make sense of the world around you. You are really starting to understand the power of your words! (though of course there are still times that you screech when you get frustrated...we just try to minimize those occurrences!)
Etc: In the past two months we have traveled to GA and WI to visit with family. I will admit that it's much easier to travel with you in the car than on a plane. A plane ride with Logan is a bit like wrestling an alligator inside of a cardboard box....for 60 minutes. Needless to say, it's exhausting! We celebrated Halloween (you were a train engineer with your buddy Parker -- chooo chooo!), and you experienced trick-or-treating for the first real time. You caught on really quickly to the concept of asking for candy, saying "thank you" and getting a treat! I'm sure we'll be running after you next year.

continue to set the table at mealtime, and you now help me feed the
dogs each morning and evening. We've had a few spilled food incidents -
but I'm impressed with how well you are doing learning this skill!
(Now when can we teach you to pick up the dog messes in the yard?? - I
kid!)
So every day I soak up the joy that you give us. That's not to say that some days aren't trying, and that you can really show that almost 2 stubborn side of yourself.....but you truly are a joy!
